This Friday, Naperville's hidden talent will have a chance to shine as 11 high school bands take the stage at Central Park in the 2010 Battle of the Bands, sponsored by the Naperville Park District Youth Ambassadors.

The Naperville Park District, DuPage Children's Museum and Naper Settlement are partnering to offer the On-the-Go PLUS Pass, which offers one-time admission to Centennial Beach and the Millennium Carillon in Moser Tower and a 20-minute paddleboat ride for up to four people in addition to admission to DuPage Children's Museum and Naper Settlement. The PLUS version sells for $27.

The Indian Prairie School District 204 board OK'd a plan for middle school music technique classes, which one board member likened to giving music parents the same opportunity as athletic parents to allow children to participate "out of their own pocketbooks." The plan calls for students in an instrumental activity to pay $108 to help fund the cost of bringing back some of the music staff that previously had been laid off.

The yearly candlelight vigil at Linden Oaks Hospital on Monday evening again honored both the spirit of those recovering from eating disorders, and the memory of those who couldn't overcome them. Several hundred people gathered at the facility, on the western edge of the Edward Hospital campus, to hear stories of strength and courage, love and loss. "There is light in the hope of recovery," said Dr. Maria Rago, clinical director of the hospital's eating disorders program. "Even if you can't see it, it's there."

4th man guilty in Naperville drug murder

The fourth of five men charged in the 2008 drug-related slaying of a Naperville man was found guilty Monday in that case. Tyrell Jackson, who fired the shot that mortally wounded John D. Rosales, was convicted of first-degree murder. That followed a one-day bench trial before Judge Richard C. Schoenstedt in Will County Circuit Court in Joliet.
