A Chicago man is free on bail and awaiting trial for allegedly having used counterfeit money last winter to obtain goods and services from at least five businesses on Naperville's far west side. Edward O. Tharrington, 49, was arrested by Naperville police on an outstanding warrant for forgery.

The Oak Brook cop son of accused wife-killer Drew Peterson was suspended from his job, possibly for his part in hiding an assault rifle from the state police. Stephen Peterson, a 6-year veteran of the Oak Brook department, was put on paid administrative leave Friday. He declined to discuss the matter.

Vasquez gets 15 years in crash that killed 5

An Aurora woman who caused the 2007 drunk-driving crash that killed five Oswego teens was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison by a Kendall County judge. The prison term means Sandra Vasquez will have to spend at least 12-1/2 years behind bars for slamming her car into a utility pole while driving eight teens home from a party.

Tyrell Jackson, 22, of Villa Park is the fourth of five men to be sentenced for their roles in the April 1, 2008, slaying of John D. Rosales, of Naperville's Windridge neighborhood.

Students in Indian Prairie District 204 continue to improve their ACT scores. The recently released scores show average composite score reached 23.9, which is a 0.1 increase over last year's average score. The increase comes at a time when the statewide average dropped by 0.1 to 20.7.
