This infrared image is of a skylight in an upstairs bedroom of a recently renovated home. Light colored areas above and to the sides of the skylight are insulation deficient or are indications of air migration around insulation (convection) from poorly installed insulation.

This infrared image is of a hallway ceiling in a recently renovated Chicago home. Lighter areas in this image are indications of a poorly insulated ceiling. Energy loss in this area is significant. The upstairs of this home was 15 degrees warmer than the rest of the home. Come wintertime, this will the coldest area of the home. An insulation upgrade, air sealing and an HVAC modification will be necessary.
